The scope of this article is Manoel Bonfim’s conception of historical instruction. When writing about the methodology of education, in the years of 1915, Manoel Bonfim defended a renewal of the teaching of history, in order to make it more attractive for children and more efficient in the process of civic formation. Despite being an intellectual considerably analyzed in the historiographical sphere and in the production of school books, Manoel Bonfim is still little discussed with regard to contributions about the teaching of history.
